After the SARS-coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), a new coronavirus virus (2019-nCoV) has emerged in China in December 2019. As of 6th February 2020, there were more than 28,000 confirmed cases around the world, with a majority reported in Mainland China (28,060 cases). According to the World Health Organization (WHO) risk assessment, the risk of acquiring the infection in China is very high.

In Mainland China, as shown by the graduated colors, Hubei province had the highest number of confirmed cases. Besides Africa, South America, and Antarctica, every continent had confirmed cases. Most of the countries (hashed areas) with confirmed cases have evacuated their citizens from China because of this outbreak. The proportion of local transmission is shown by the dark blue color in the pie chart, and the total number of confirmed cases is shown by the size of the chart on the map. Most of the places with confirmed cases have local transmission.

Currently, there is no effective vaccine against 2019-nCoV. To prevent virus transmission, wash your hands frequently and avoid close contact with people who are sick.
